Part service part learning, this work documents my experience and observations at the Indigo Skate Camp, where skateboarding is used as an instrument for community enrichment. Traveling to South Africa in 2010, I led printmaking lessons for Indigo’s after-school program, presented artwork made in those lessons at the Art & Social Justice Conference, filmed/photographed various situations at Indigo, and made myself at home otherwise with the intent of learning and contributing what I could.
A number of other communities sharing Indigo’s mission have started up similar programs of their own. Learn more about these groups and feel free to donate to their cause by visiting them on the web.
